One of the best parts of warmer weather is our ability to open our windows and let the fresh air in. Unfortunately, those open windows are also extremely welcoming to spiders. Especially here in Tifton, spiders can be a significant issue other than just looking creepy.
Spider bites
can cause all kinds of problems. Most of them cause symptoms like pain, swelling, and redness around the area bitten. The good news is most spiders are harmless.
However, according to the
The Center for Disease Control, there are two spiders here that have extremely venomous bites and are dangerous to people, the Brown Recluse and the Black Widow. The Brown Recluse bite can cause necrosis of the skin at the bite site, and the Black Widow bite, in extreme cases, can be deadly. Both spiders can be found in common areas around the home, like basements, woodpiles, garages, and even in-between clothes and towels. These are also areas that harmless spiders, like Orb Weavers, Common House Spiders, and Hobo Spiders, like to live as well.
Signs Of A Spider Infestation
There are some signs that you can look for that can indicate you are dealing with a spider infestation. Spiderwebs are the most obvious. More spiderwebs do not necessarily mean more spiders. However, if you clean them out and they come back right away, rest assured that there are a significant number of spiders to be dealt with.
If you’re feeling brave, you can also check the house for spider egg sacs. Spiders can lay hundreds of eggs at one time, which they wrap up in a silk-like material. They often place these sacs on the spiderweb itself or in undisturbed areas of the home. It usually takes 2-3 weeks for egg sacs to hatch, so if you see a multitude of baby spiders running about, call us immediately. Also, the spiders you see are just the tip of the iceberg of what may be lurking about. The eight-legged pest generally shows up when there is an adequate food supply, more bugs.
